Day 19

On Monday, Sister Esperance invited me to accompany her as she travelled to Saint Daniel Comboni Hospital in Wau to check in (or perhaps to “check up on”!) the student who had been assigned to do clinical rotations there.

The first thing that impressed me about the campus of the hospital was the sparse quality of the facilities, and the large number of people–children, women, and men–lining every corridor and hoping to be able to get medical attention that day.  The mere sight of that many people and the challenge of trying to provide all of them seemed like an overwhelming task.  How many of them could actually be seen and helped in a single day?  There didn’t seem to be sufficient medical personnel on hand to even begin to address the need.
