World Environment Day: in Riimenze, agriculture is the guardian of the Earth

To mark the World Environment Day (5 June), we’re celebrating the beauty and sustainability that flourish in our projects! At the demonstration farm of the Sustainable Agriculture Project in Riimenze (SAP-R), crops such as maize, groundnuts and soya are thriving. This success is the result of a deep respect for nature and teamwork.

Here, farming is 100% organic: we use only organic materials, such as animal manure and plant matter for mulching, and avoid chemical products. Thanks to early weeding and the community workers, we protect the plants from competition with weeds and break the pest cycle in a completely natural way. In tune with the climate, we make the most of the rainy season to ensure abundant and sustainable harvests.

Farming the land without harming it is our way of protecting our Common Home and ensuring a secure future for the communities of South Sudan.
