|On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Laudato Si encyclical in 2020, the Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development initiated the Laudato Si Action Platform (LSAP). It has 7 goals and the opportunity is offered to all to make a 7-year commitment or journey towards Integral Ecology.
What we are invited is to register on the platform as families, parishes or dioceses, schools, hospitals, religious communities or congregations, NGOs, etc.. and to make a public statement on what we would like to commit for the 7 year journey. We can focus on any of the following goals; Response to the cry of the earth, response to the cry of the poor, Ecological spirituality, Ecological education, Ecological Economics, Community resilience and empowerment, and Adoption of sustainable lifestyles.
It is the urgent appeal of Pope Francis in the face of the pressing environmental challenges to all persons living on our earth. It calls for a dialogue on how we can protect our common home and how together we can implement ways of sustainable and integrated development. This requires a continuous “ecological conversion”.
For example, the ecological conversion would allow us to implement the following pedagogical actions: 1. to become more aware of the damage we cause; 2. to coin creative and collective responses; 3. to give visibility to our assumption of environmental responsibility; 4. to recover a degraded area; and 5. to choose, for each journey, the least polluting transport alternative possible.
Whether as an individual or in the community – everyone has many opportunities to do something, starting with small actions as Pope Francis reminds us, “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.” (LS, 14)
