But Serbia had no easy ride to this victory; on the contrary, they had to work hard. Bogdan Bognadovic and his teammates tried to impose their technical and talent superiority, but South Sudan never let up. Royal Ivey’s team, making the most of their physical dominance, always kept their hopes of success alive. But then in the last seven minutes of the match the Serbs took the lead and there was no more. It was a rough and very physical game, factors that went more in South Sudan’s favour. But then, in the last quarter, Serbia found the countermoves and with the baskets of their champions they took the lead. The technical gap between the two teams – even at the start – was very wide. Nikola Jokic, Vasilije Micic and Bogdan Bogdanovic, three players capable of making all the difference in the world. Three scientists of the game, in particular the Atlanta Hawks’ outside player, the true MVP of the match. With this result, South Sudan says goodbye to the 2024 Games, but does so with its head held high. The African team played with everyone, achieved a brilliant victory against Puerto Rico. But it never gave up against either the United States or Serbia. It had to face an already more than prohibitive group, but managed to come within a handful of minutes of a resounding passage to the quarters. The result between South Sudan and Serbia therefore rewards Greece, which will advance to the next stage as the best third along with Brazil.
