| I am Sr. Veronica Añonuevo, icm, from the Philippines a member of Missionary Sisters of Immaculate heart of Mary (ICM). It was on the occasion of my Silver Jubilee—25 years as a Religious Missionary—that I accepted the challenge to be missioned here in South Sudan and to become a member of Solidarity with South Sudan (SWSS).
Solidarity with South Sudan is a unique collaboration and commitment of various religious congregations. Men and women from different nationalities and with diverse charisms live together in community, serving the Church and the people. In this post-war country, SWSS members strive to be witnesses of peace, hope, and love to those we serve. At present, I am working with the Sustainable Agriculture Project in Riimenze. It is a demanding mission. The people here continue to suffer because of insecurity, widespread hunger, and deep poverty. The future often feels uncertain. Many families have no access to electricity, and water is limited—some even walk long distances to fetch water from the river. Malnutrition among children is a heartbreaking reality we face every day. As I journey with the people, their struggles and difficulties have become my own. Yet, amid these challenges, I continue to see the limitless and creative work of God within me. I have discovered new skills and learned the importance of networking and collaboration with others. I am deeply grateful to my Congregation that I was sent in this mission in South Sudan, my faith has grown stronger. This experience has deepened my trust in God’s providence and reminded me that God is always present on this journey. Sr. Veronica Añonuevo, icm |
