Innovation in the field: ploughing with oxen in Riimenze

The Sustainable Agriculture Project in Riimenze (SAP-R) continues to promote practical solutions to ensure food security and the economic development of the local community. By introducing techniques that respect the environment and optimise resources, SAP-R aims to transform the farm into a model of efficiency and resilience for the entire region.
With this focus on continuous improvement, the technique of ploughing with oxen has recently been introduced. A pair of young calves is currently being trained in animal traction, a farming method that skilfully combines traditional expertise with technical innovation. This practice helps to break up and aerate the soil deeply, significantly improving water absorption and promoting the development of healthy roots, which translates into a significant increase in crop yields.
To ensure the initiative’s success, a local expert has been appointed to lead the farm workers through a specific training programme. The primary objective of the operation is twofold: on the one hand, it aims to drastically reduce the high costs associated with manual labour alone, and on the other, to maximize the farm’s production and income. Thanks to this investment in local expertise and sustainable technology, the SAP-R project is taking another step toward more efficient agricultural management, capable of generating income and well-being for the entire Riimenze community.
