Laudato Sì Week: Sr Guille on Radio Bakhita

To mark the International week for the promotion of Laudito Si’ in South Sudan, Radio Bakhita, our local Catholic radio station in Juba, invited Sr Guillermina (Guille) Vasquez ACJ to give 6 talks of 30 minute each on the subject. Starting on Pentecost Sunday, Fr Rohan Dominic, CMF, the Claretian representative to the United Nations in New York, started the series with a reflection on faith and the environment.

The objective of the series of talks is to motivate people to protect our common home through concrete actions and simple changes in the way we live. Guided by her years of experience working with ‘green clubs’ in Solidarity Teacher Training College in Yambio, and now with our Pastoral Team, Guille combines her faith, her passion for the environment and her practical experience to guide groups in how to become more environmentally responsible.

So far, she has touched on the main principles of Laudito Si’ and how we can walk more humbly with our Creator and our brothers and sisters on Mother Earth.

During the following days, she addressed the 7 goals of Laudito Si’ including:

  • Responding to the Cry of the Earth and the Cry of the Poor (Goals 1 and 2).
  • The Deep Connection between Ecology and Economy, and how we can change our daily lives in a commitment to simplicity connected with nature, human beings, and God (Goals 3 and 4).
  • Education as a Platform to Transform Our Attitudes and Actions towards Nature (Goal 5).

Due to the popularity of the topic, Sr Guille along with the Solidarity Pastoral Team and other Laudito Si’ groups active in Juba will continue this reflection, and seek to promote greater awareness and collaboration between all interested groups.
