New academic year at the Catholic Health Training Institute

The new academic year is underway at the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI). The first- and second-year students of the nursing and midwifery courses are currently attending lectures in the classroom for a period of six weeks. Following this phase, the second-year students will move to the hospital facilities to carry out the clinical activities included in their course of study. In parallel, the third-year students are currently engaged in internships at Wau Teaching Hospital, St. Daniel Camboni Catholic Hospital and Sika Hadid Primary Health Care Centre and will resume theoretical classes at the end of the six-month period. During the placement, the nursing students will focus in particular on the analysis of community clinical cases, while the midwifery students on Antenatal Care (ANC), which is the health care provided to women from the beginning of pregnancy until the day of delivery to promote and protect the health of mothers and the unborn at every stage.

In this regard, we recall that today is the World Patient Safety Day, significant occasion to reaffirm the importance of promoting safe practices in all health care settings. At CHTI in Wau, future health workers are acquiring the necessary skills to ensure safe and quality care for the South Sudanese population. Their work is helping to improve the lives of thousands of people.
