In this critical situation, the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) in Wau plays a key role. Supported by Solidarity with South Sudan, the CHTI trains young South Sudanese to become qualified nurses and midwives. Its graduates are a lifeline for communities, particularly for mothers and newborns, in a country with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world.
