| Solidarity with South Sudan is a religious platform that offered me the grace of working in synergy with other consecrated women and men.
All religious orders try to portray the mission of Christ following a specific founder and each one has its ways of witnessing the love of Christ through a specific ministry. Solidarity with South Sudan offers the opportunity for all those who embrace its mission to work together, witnessing the unity that Jesus brought, putting the love for human being at the center of all missions. As the last African Country to acquire independence, South Sudan was in need of a multi sectorial approach so as to attain its 5 Rs (Reconciliation, Repatriation. Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Re-education) to build up each individual and the society at large. Solidarity with South Sudan was and is a unique opportunity where religious women and men center the love for Christ and for humanity above each single religious order’ ministry; to embrace a common vision of building up the people of South Sudan through a common ministry either in Education sector, in health sector, and in Pastoral work. I was blessed to be part of this group from the start and worked willingly for 2 periods of time. Standing for and honoring its name, Solidarity targets working with the people in a vision that is person centered away from the traditional mission of running a school or a hospital or a pastoral center. Solidarity sites can be compared to a hub where intellectual, moral, humane, spiritual transformation of each beneficiary takes place so that all those who receive training are capacitated to continue the chain of changing/improving the life of their fellow South Sudanese where few Solidarity members cannot reach. Our inter-congregational community living was and is still a great testimony of unity for the people we minister too so that they learn that it is possible to live in peace with others. In a society ravaged by inter-tribal conflict religious coming from the four corners of the world living and working together is a great testimony. In society where women must only assume the role of procreation, and women have no much say religious women are loud speaking role models. Even though the mission is demanding, there is a big gratification of knowing that one has contributed in setting up the foundation stones for a nation. Sr. Esperance Bamiriyo, Comboni sister
