| On World Recycling Day, Solidarity with South Sudan’s commitment stands as a concrete response to the call of Laudato Si’: to combat the “throwaway culture” and care for our Common Home. For Solidarity, integral ecology is not an abstract concept, but a cornerstone that underpins every initiative: in all projects, education and training become tools for promoting respect for Creation and responsibility towards the environment.
The fight against food and material waste is a daily priority that translates into training programmes aimed at making the most of every available resource. A significant example can be found at the Solidarity Teacher’s Training College (STTC), where workshops dedicated to creativity and the creation of teaching aids using recycled materials are held regularly. Here, students learn that caring for the planet involves ingenious reuse and conscious consumption. Protecting creation in South Sudan means sowing a new ecological awareness that unites the various communities. Through these projects, Solidarity demonstrates that educating people about recycling and respect for nature is the first step towards building a future of dignity and sustainability for the entire country.
