| At the Saint Dominic Savio Nursery School in Riimenze, education is not limited to textbooks, but aims to nurture responsible and mindful children. Through the account of teacher James Titako, we discover how a minor incident became an important opportunity for growth and reconciliation.
“ That same day, Sr. Agnes and the Head Teacher agreed to call the parents of the boys to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, Sr. Agnes gathered the boys in one room and instructed them to write an apology letter on a full sheet of paper, back to back. This activity was meant to help them reflect on their actions while also serving as writing practice instead of sending them home. Among the boys involved were several considered leaders of the school In a sharing with four of these leaders, all of whom have been in the school for at least two years, the boys expressed their regret. “We are unhappy with what happened. We have never been involved in such a bad act in this school before,” they said. The boys explained that they learned a lot from the incident, which they described as a result of playing without thinking about the consequences. They emphasized that they would not repeat such behavior, acknowledging their responsibility to care for school property and serve as examples to other learners. They also advised their fellow pupils to take good care of the school’s resources.
