World Health Day: The future is in education

Today marks World Health Day, with the theme: “Together for health, stand with science”. In an era of global challenges, the World Health Organization emphasizes that progress in public health depends on the combination of scientific evidence, cooperation and high-quality training.

In South Sudan, this combination of science and solidarity is put into practice through the work of the Catholic Health Science Institute (CHSI) in Wau, also known as CHTI (Catholic Health Training Institute). The center does not merely respond to current emergencies, but looks to the future through a constant process of renewal. The CHSI is, in fact, exploring new ways to expand its training provision and enhance the healthcare services offered to the country, with the aim of responding ever more effectively to the complexities of the local context.
Celebrating health today means recognizing that there can be no well-being without trained and motivated healthcare workers. Training a single nurse or midwife is not merely an educational act, but an investment in the resilience and future of an entire nation, as demonstrated by the fact that over 90% of CHSI graduates are currently employed in healthcare facilities throughout South Sudan.
