| During these days (27–29 May 2026), the Fraterna Domus in Sacrofano (Rome) is hosting the 105th Assembly of the Union of Superiors General (USG), an event which this year invites us to reflect on how to “Transmit the Charism in the Service of Governance”. In this context of deep communion among congregations, Solidarity with South Sudan had the opportunity to be present to bear witness to the beauty of a shared charism that becomes a concrete mission. In particular, on the second day, we had the chance to open the session with morning prayer, effectively led by Sister Oydu Okwori (SHCJ), a member of the Solidarity Board. Through the evocative metaphor of “The Vessel”, the assembly prayed to rediscover themselves as humble vessels, ready to welcome the world’s fragilities and transform them into channels of peace and hope. Following this, Emanuela de Mattia, our Fundraising Director, focused on the fact that our true strength lies not only in our projects’ statistics or their tangible impact on communities, but above all in the value of Presence: in an age that prioritizes efficiency at any cost, the true ‘resilience’ of our missionaries lies in their daily choice to remain. Staying by the side of the South Sudanese people, despite the challenges and hardships, means restoring dignity and hope to these people. Watch the VIDEO of the full speech!
As the Assembly’s proceedings continue towards our discussions with representatives of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the USG for offering us this valuable opportunity to meet and share our experiences.
