Solidarity with South Sudan is organising a special prayer event to ask God’s blessing on the apostolic visit of the Holy Father Pope Francis to Congo and South Sudan.
The Holy See Press Office announces that Pope Francis will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan for an ecumenical peace pilgrimage from 31 January to 5 February 2023, journeys postponed in the past due to health reasons.
Pope Francis said that plans were already underway for the realization of the postponed ecumenical trip to South Sudan and his pastoral visit to the DRC, at the beginning of next February.
“In an increasingly polarised and divided world, may the Christian community be a leaven of brotherhood and unity,” the words of Rumbek Bishop Carlassare.
Pope Francis is in contact with the head of the Anglican Communion and the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in view of realizing their postponed ecumenical trip to South Sudan.
Scholasticah Nganda, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy and director of the pastoral programmes of Solidarity with South Sudan, tells of her experience, emphasising the need to support South Sudanese women and girls, who are the main victims of the violence of the armed conflicts in their country.
“When I met the Pope in person at an audience through the congregation, he encouraged me to continue in the mission. He said to me: “Keep carrying the Good News wherever it is needed.” I believe that what the Pope wants from us missionaries is that we continue to be witnesses of the Good News of Christ precisely close to the people who suffer, close to the poor. That is why, perhaps, we missionaries have a place in his heart”
