In January 2025, Solidarity organised workshops for 368 young women in six deaneries of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY) and Western Equatoria. The objective was to promote the social and economic empowerment of women through the development of practical skills. The workshops covered topics such as agriculture, nutrition, hygiene, entrepreneurship and vocational skills. Participants from diverse backgrounds also benefited from spiritual and social support, which boosted their confidence and resilience. The work they did led to women having higher self-esteem and a better understanding of gender equity. In addition, the formation of women’s groups at the local level was encouraged for continued support. The organisers plan to continue the initiative with further training modules.
