| On 12 May we celebrate International Nurses Day, a precious occasion to recognise the irreplaceable role these professionals play in the global health care system. In particular, we would like to give a special thought to the nurses trained at the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) in Wau, an excellence promoted with passion by Solidarity with South Sudan.
Located in the complex context of South Sudan, the CHTI in Wau is a beacon of hope, providing high-quality training to those who dedicate their lives to caring for others. The nurses who come out of this institute are not only competent professionals, but also bearers of compassion and resilience, qualities that are essential in facing the health challenges of a country in dire need of skilled care. Stories like that of Buseina Adam (HERE), a former CHTI student who is now a dedicated nurse at St. Daniel Comboni Hospital in Wau, testify to the transformative impact of this training. Thanks to the skills she has acquired, Buseina and many of her colleagues are on the frontline of patient care, offering relief and hope in the most vulnerable communities. On this International Day, we celebrate their courage, dedication and tireless commitment.
