| With this powerful cry, the Catholic bishops of South Sudan denounce the dramatic resumption of fighting that is severely affecting the population, particularly in the states of Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria.
In the official statement of January 27, 2026 (attached), Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla and the bishops of the Episcopal Conference strongly condemn the use of military violence as a solution to political disputes. The message is clear: human dignity must return to the center. There can be no talk of a future if dialogue is systematically set aside in favor of weapons: it is time to build peace, as Pope Francis has also urged. An appeal is also made to the international community so that the world does not tire of supporting the South Sudanese people in their daily struggle for survival.
