| The Pastoral Service of Solidarity with South Sudan, is a pillar of the involvement of Solidarity in South Sudan through the Sudan and South Sudan Bishop conference.
The Pastoral Project aims mainly at building the pastoral agents’ different capacities of the different dioceses in the country: spiritual, theological, human and psychological. Some domains of intervention are: – Revitalization of the Small Christian Communities and formation of the leaders. – Capacity building of the members of the Parish Pastoral Council. – Formation and empowerment of all the catechists in the parishes. – Empowerment of the Young Christians Students (YCS) – Empowerment and capacity building of women – Promotion of women and girls in the responsibilities of the leadership – Trauma healing and reconciliation programs for various groups of the church. – Awareness building on care of the creation and Laudato Sì action in school and dioceses: tree planting. – Close collaboration with the different pastoral structures of the dioceses. – Listening and accompaniment of the religious groups and church personnel through spiritual retreat or recollection at GSPC. – Financial support of some programs of the dioceses in line with the Solidarity Pastoral Service requirements. The Church of South Sudan is vivid and young. The different crises the country has passed through, created huge social gaps: the instability and the insecurity, make the mission quite insecure, irregular and forcing a perpetual recommencement. I have been for pastoral missions in these dioceses (Wau, Torit, Malakal, Yambio, Juba). Resilience and enthusiasm can be seen from the people everywhere. The needs for the mission are so huge and stressful. To conclude, I can say Solidarity with South Sudan has a big impact on the life of the church and society in general.
