“Small things for the glory of God”: the big heart of St. Dominic Savio

The 2025 school year at St. Dominic Savio Nursery School in Riimenze has been an incredible journey, which began in mid-February 2025 with great enthusiasm and officially ended on 12 December. It has been a truly eventful year, in which we welcomed many young pupils, reaching a peak of over 350 enrolments during the first part of the year. The children were divided into classes with truly inspiring names that reflect the values we strive to convey every day: we have Hope, Joy, Patience and Progress classes for the youngest children in the first level, while the older children in the second level are divided between Peace-makers and Honesty. Thanks to the constant commitment of the teachers and the use of innovative teaching methods such as “Teaching at the Right Level”, we have been able to prepare our pupils so well that 132 of them are ready to start primary school this year. But it wasn’t just about classroom lessons: the children explored the surroundings, visited the church and learned the value of prayer, especially in October, when the youngest children learned to lead the Rosary by becoming part of the “Mama Mary’s Kids” group. The connection with families was at the heart of the project: the parents were fantastic, participating in meetings and actively contributing by bringing wood and produce from their fields to support the school canteen. A truly exciting moment was the final day, when six young leaders were rewarded with useful gifts for their families, such as rice and beans, to celebrate their commitment and growth.Under the guidance of Head Teacher Mdme. Madeleine Louis and coordinator Sr. Agnes L. Marcelino, the school looks to the future with humility: as St. Dominic Savio said, “I am not capable of doing great things, but I want to do everything, even the smallest things, for the greater glory of God”, and seeing the smiles of our more than 300 students is the most beautiful proof of this. Special thanks go to all the supporters who make this small daily miracle possible.
