| From the 21st Plenary Assembly of AMECEA (Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa), held in Nairobi (Kenya) from 19 to 26 July 2026, attended by around 140 bishops from nine East African countries, a clear and direct message emerges: young Africans are not asking for handouts, but for real opportunities, decent work and a role in shaping the future of their continent.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the region’s episcopal leadership urged governments and international institutions to adopt concrete employment policies, ensure social justice and provide training programmes, emphasizing that the younger generations are not only the future, but the present of the Church and of society.
