From emergency to self-reliance: hope grows in Riimenze

Through the Sustainable Agriculture Project–Riimenze (SAP-R), Solidarity with South Sudan continues to support 25 households of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in the camp around Riimenze Parish.

In addition to monthly food assistance (including beans, rice, and sugar) the project provides seeds and seedlings to help displaced families improve food production and rebuild their livelihoods.

Key achievements of the food distribution program in 2026 include:

✨ Reduced hunger: Monthly food assistance has significantly reduced hunger and helps prevent food shortages and famine risk in the community.

✨ Bountiful harvests: Seeds distributed for maize, groundnuts, and vegetables (tomatoes, okra, eggplant, and green pepper) led to a successful harvest, improving food security and nutrition.

✨ Enhanced livelihoods: Families (especially women in the IDP camp) were able to sell part of their harvest to generate income for other household needs.

✨ Renewed hope and peace of mind: Access to regular food and farming inputs restores hope and eases hardship after the losses suffered during previous rebel insurgencies in Bangasu Payam.

This renewed hope is also evident in the words of the IDP community leader: “Solidarity with South Sudan has never abandoned us but has continued to support us, making us feel at home in Riimenze. The successful harvest from our farms has given the community renewed peace of mind and confidence for the future.”

A heartfelt thank you to all donors, supporters, and field teams who make this journey of resilience and dignity possible!
