| In the midst of rising tensions in South Sudan and news of the arrest of First Vice President Riek Machar, the Bishop of the Diocese of Bentiu, Christian Carlassare, has called for daily prayers for peace and is considering ‘the possibility of having a more participatory public prayer for peace’. Machar’s arrest raises fears of a return to civil war, putting the 2018 peace agreement at risk. Foreign governments have warned of a new conflict, while the UN representative considers the security situation very critical.
