| On 9 July 2026, to mark the latest anniversary of South Sudan’s independence, the country’s diocesan priests and religious issued a heartfelt joint appeal for a renewed and united commitment to reconciliation and national stability. Among the bishops involved is Bishop Christian Carlassare, Bishop of the Diocese of Bentiu, who, together with the other religious leaders, emphasized that true independence is not merely a historic milestone, but a journey to be built upon every day through unity, dialogue and the overcoming of the divisions that still afflict the country. Faced with the complex social and economic challenges of today, the local Church reaffirms its role as an essential point of reference, calling on institutions, citizens and international partners to put the common good and the dignity of every person back at the center in order to build a peace that is, at last, lasting.
