Solidarity Teacher Training College: Inservice program comes to Wau

We are excited to announce that on February 3, an Inservice training program for primary school
teachers will start in Wau, the second largest city in South Sudan. This initiative, which originates as part of the Solidarity Teacher Training College based in Yambio, is intended for all those who already teach in primary schools in the city of Wau but do not have nationally recognized qualifications.

Why this course?

The Inservice program, already successfully launched in Yambio, was created out of the need to ensure quality education for all South Sudanese children. The Ministry of Education has launched an appeal for all primary school teachers to obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and, in Wau alone, there are 600 teachers who lack adequate training.

How will the course be structured?

The two-year course will be held every afternoon from Monday to Friday, from 2 to 5 p.m. It will be divided into three modules, and at the end of the first year, student teachers will have to pass an exam to enter the next academic year. After completing the training and passing the final exam, they will obtain a nationally valid certification.

A promising start

There are 30 teachers who, led by coordinator Sister Dolores and two experienced local teachers, Steven and Sister Rumbi, are about to embark on this new path. We are confident that their passion and dedication will make a difference, encouraging more and more teachers to participate.

We sincerely thank everyone who made this initiative possible, and wish all students-teachers and staff all the best!
