Sport is a powerful tool for building bridges, teaching collaboration and strengthening a sense of community. The Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) football team is a perfect example of this.
Our students participate in tournaments and challenges with local teams not only for fun, but to build a sense of belonging, unity and collaboration that goes beyond ethnicity, clan or tribe. This unity, forged by teamwork and a common goal, demonstrates in practice that respect and trust can overcome tribal divisions. For these students, sport becomes a workshop for peaceful coexistence, where they learn to recognize each other as teammates rather than opponents, building a sense of belonging to a larger community and, indeed, to the nation of South Sudan itself. Sport is an important part of the holistic approach of all educational projects run by Solidarity, because it brings people together and strengthens the sense of friendship and collaboration in a perspective of education for peace and reconciliation. |
