Yesterday, 3 December 2025, saw the successful conclusion of the event ‘Pilgrims of Hope in South Sudan’, organized by Solidarity with South Sudan at the Jesuit General Curia in Rome. The event was attended by over 70 people, including ambassadors to the Holy See from numerous countries and representatives of various religious congregations, both male and female. The day of discussion, supported and promoted by the Unions of Superiors General (UISG and USG) and the Embassies of Ireland and the United Kingdom to the Holy See, was enriched by institutional contributions such as those of Her Excellency Frances Collins (Ambassador of Ireland to the Holy See) and His Excellency Chris Trott (British Ambassador), as well as His Eminence Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, and served to reaffirm the crucial role of inter-congregational collaboration in building hope and peace in the world’s youngest country. The debate, which included the vision of Dr Seamus O’Leary, representative for Misean Cara, and the testimonies of old and new members of Solidarity, focused on a holistic and long-term missionary approach. This approach is based on constant presence and trust, recognizing the great resilience of the South Sudanese people, despite the country facing immense challenges such as high maternal mortality rates. The British Ambassador also emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships with church organizations for local reconciliation, recalling how church leaders have been the inspiration for international actions, such as the moving retreat in Rome in 2019, where Pope Francis knelt to kiss the feet of South Sudanese leaders. We thank all participants for making this day of commitment and hope so fruitful! The full presentations given during the event are available at the following link: LINK
