Today, on World Children’s Day, we reflect on a fundamental right enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child: “Every child has the inherent right to life and, to the fullest extent possible, to survival and development” (Article 6). Unfortunately, in South Sudan, this right is still severely tested. With one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world, as many as 99 deaths per 1,000 live births, and a maternal mortality rate of 1,150 women dying per 100,000 births, the situation is dramatic and urgent. The Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) is working hard to change this reality. Through training midwives and nurses, it is building a healthier future for the women and children of South Sudan. Today, 92% of its graduates are already active in the field in local hospitals: through the Antenatal Care unit, they provide perinatal care to more than 1,500 women every month, ensuring greater safety during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. 💖 You can make a difference! With this GoFundMe campaign, you can help fund a full three-year course of study for a midwife at CHTI, ensuring more children and mothers a healthier and safer future. Donate now and be part of this mission of life and hope.
