Dear friend, As we celebrate Laudato Si’ Week, we are reminded that caring for our common home is not just an idea, it is a call to action, especially in the most fragile and challenging contexts. Today, we live in a world marked by growing instability and conflict. This reality is deeply felt in South Sudan, where the situation of insecurity and internal violence is once again intensifying, and fear and uncertainty are becoming part of daily life for many communities. And yet, even in these most difficult circumstances, the earth continues to offer life. In communities like Riimenze, where our Sustainable Agricultural Project is implemented, the connection between people and the land is immediate and essential. When the land is cared for, it becomes a source of nourishment, dignity and hope, even in the midst of crisis. What a joy it is to see mothers and children celebrating when they receive nutritional supplements prepared from the products grown on our farm. What a joy it is to see the land cultivated by families begin to flourish again, knowing that what grows today will continue to bear life in the future. What a joy it is when farming and livestock-keeping families celebrate their products, share them within their communities, and generate income to support their children’s education. This is the deeper meaning of our celebration this week: The gift of our Common Home! A gift that continues to give. We are constantly amazed by how this quiet miracle unfolds every day. We see it in the eyes of mothers, of children, of farmers… We feel it in our hearts. So we celebrate! Because despite everything, this gift cannot be taken away by war. And we remain committed, with perseverance and energy, to care for it, always. The care for our common home is what helps us to turn what the earth offers into life, even where life is most at risk. The earth reminds us that, despite everything, life endures. And with life, there is hope and the certainty that, by walking and working together, we can make a difference. Thank you for walking with us, for supporting us, for caring, and for continuing to stand with the people of South Sudan. With gratitude and prayers, Br.
