Solidarity General Assembly – Thank you all!

 

On 30 November 2023, the Solidarity Annual General Assembly  took place in Rome, involving 73 participants, among which more than 30 congregations belonging to the USG and UISG, which are supporting Solidarity from the beginning, representative from the donor Agencies supporting SwSS and the H.E. the Ambassadors to the Holy See of Ireland, Great Britain and Slovenia, in addition officers from the US Embassy to the Holy See, from the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Holy See, and an important representative of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. It was an occasion to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Organization, together with the above friends.

In addition, Fr Jim Greene, the Executive Director, and the member of the Finance Committee, Mrs Bellucci, gave updates on the projects in South Sudan and on the financial situation. We also had the possibility to listen to the words of Bishop Nyodo about the situation in Malakal, so close to the border with Sudan, from where many people is leaving due to the Sudanese war. In the afternoon, Ms Nicole Moran led the discussion on the new Strategic Plan., which will be presented early next year, after the final revision.

During the Assembly, three Board members have been newly appointed, after the process of elections which involved the congregation members of the Organization. The President, Br Emili Turu Rofes, thanked Fr Vincent Anesthasiar (cmf), Maria Carmen Ocon (Msola), and Ms Celeste Roche, who ended their mandate as Board members, for their passionate commitment to Solidarity. Then he presented Sr Gretta Fernandes, SpSS (elected for the second mandate), Sr Maria Gaczol (rscj), and Anne Falona (ola) elected as new Board members. Finally, Sr Mumbi Kigutha, cpps, was presented as the new President of Friends in Solidarity.
