Today, 19 August 2024, marks the 21st anniversary of the attack on the UN headquarters at the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, in which 22 humanitarian workers were killed. Five years later, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 19 August as World Humanitarian Day, a day dedicated to all humanitarian workers who risk their lives in the course of their work and to the call for protection for conflict-affected populations and humanitarian workers
Today, therefore, we pay tribute to all those who work tirelessly to bring aid to the world’s most vulnerable communities. In South Sudan, in particular, humanitarian workers are on the front line providing vital assistance to millions of people affected by conflict and natural disasters; helping people imagine or rebuild their future; offering support, education, sustainable development models that allow the country to finally be free. Their courage and dedication are an example to us all. Allow these workers to continue in their mission for a more just and peaceful world. Every donation, every gesture of solidarity makes a difference. Join us and support Solidarity with South Sudan, you can help build a more secure future for the people of South Sudan
