| On 25 May 2025, the fifth edition of the Peace Trophy, a football tournament that is part of the Solidarity with South Sudan pastoral programme, came to a successful conclusion. The event saw twelve teams compete for the title, with over 800 enthusiastic spectators cheering them on. In the final, the Apostles of Jesus triumphed over Rajjaff FC with a score of 1-0.
The main objective of the tournament was not only competition, but the promotion of peace and unity among young people in the area through sport. Paul Lado, player-coach of the Apostles of Jesus, emphasized this spirit: “We played for peace, not just for the trophy. Every goal reminded us that we can unite despite our differences.” Spectator Martha Nyibol also grasped the deeper meaning of the tournament, saying she saw “young people laughing, hugging and sharing moments of joy: this gave us hope.” She added that the Peace Trophy brought joy to many families and strengthened community spirit. This year’s well-organised and talent-rich tournament highlighted skill, discipline and sportsmanship among the young players. The award ceremony celebrated not only football, but above all peace and youth empowerment. The Peace Trophy 2025 follows in the footsteps of previous champions, and preparations for the 2026 edition are already underway, with plans to further expand the event. We thank Friends In Solidarity – USA for their valuable support, which made the success of this tournament possible.
