On 5 September, the international community celebrates the International Day of Charity, an occasion to reflect on the importance of solidarity and commitment towards those most in need. This day, established in honour of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, reminds us that charity is not just an act of generosity, but a moral duty that unites us all.
Solidarity with South Sudan, operating in South Sudan, one of the world’s youngest and most fragile nations, is a concrete example of how charity can be transformed into concrete action. Born in 2008, the inter-congregational initiative invests resources and missionary personnel in long-term projects to strengthen local communities and promote their development through the training of teachers, midwives, nurses, farmers and community leaders, with the aim of ensuring a better future for the people of South Sudan. On this day, join us. Every contribution you make, however big or small, can make a difference. As Mother Teresa of Calcutta used to say: “We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love”. |
