Yesterday, 28 November, the General House of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (La Salle Brothers) in Rome hosted a very special General Assembly of Solidarity with South Sudan. With over 70 participants, including sisters and brothers from more than 30 congregations, as well as numerous representatives from our donor agencies, the hall was alive with an atmosphere of great participation and sharing.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Yei, Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo, gave us a concerned picture of the situation in South Sudan, highlighting the political and climatic challenges afflicting the country. His words reminded us of the importance of our commitment and the need for continued support. The outgoing Executive Director, Fr Jim Greene, in his speech, shared with us a profound reflection from Solidarity members involved in the field, on the motivations that drive us to be part of this mission. He emphasised the critical issues we face but also the great opportunity we have to make a difference in our own lives and in the lives of people in South Sudan. Sister Mumbi Kigutha, president of Friends in Solidarity, our US partner, made a valuable contribution by recalling the importance of listening to the voices of the beneficiaries and measuring the concrete impact of our projects. The day ended with a touching Eucharistic celebration dedicated to the memory of Father david Gentry, former Mission Promoter of Solidarity, who put his life at the service of others with passion and dedication. Once again, this year, the Assembly was a time of discussion and growth for all of us. We were able to appreciate the strength of our inter-congregational collaboration network and the passion that unites us in this mission. Renewing this commitment every year by supporting Solidarity’s projects is essential to continue building a better future for South Sudan. Thank you all!
