Dublin Hosts the Forum for Irish Missionaries: A United Front for South Sudan

The inaugural meeting of the FIMSS (Forum for Irish Missionaries in South Sudan) concluded yesterday in Dublin. This new platform was established to foster sharing and collaboration among the various Irish organizations active in the country. The event opened with a reflection by John Guiney SJ, Director of IJI (Irish Jesuits International), followed by an overview of the project’s objectives presented by Deputy Director Emer Kerrigan.

During the morning session, John Moffett (CEO of Misean Cara) provided a comprehensive overview of the members currently working on the ground, while the Irish Ambassador, Olivia Leslie, sent a video message of support from Ethiopia. The heart of the forum was the direct sharing of the work carried out by individual congregations in the field, a vital moment of dialogue to address common challenges, such as conflict and economic instability.

Participating congregations included well-established organizations such as the Loreto Sisters, Salesians of Don Bosco, De La Salle Brothers, Holy Faith Sisters, Patrician Brothers, and the Comboni Missionaries. In this spirit of exchange, Solidarity with South Sudan also played an active role. Claudia Nicolò, Office Manager from the Rome headquarters, briefly presented our projects, emphasizing the critical importance of training and long-term resilience.

For Solidarity, the event was a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties with missionary partners and coordinate efforts to support the most vulnerable, confirming the importance of a united front to build the future of South Sudan.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers for inviting us to this significant launch. It was an honor to share our vision and contribute to the growth of this new network of solidarity.
